POPULAR actor Gregor Fisher is getting stuck into his tasty new role.

Fisher stars in Yer Granny, the new National Theatre of Scotland comedy about a 100-year-old eating a family out of house and home.

The Rab C Nesbitt star plays the "diabolicial" Yer Granny and is joined by sons Cammy and Charlie Russo, portrayed by Jonathan Watson and Paul Riley.

Cammy's wife Marie Russo is played by Maureen Beattie and their daughter Marissa Russo by Louise McCarthy.

Marie's sister, Angela Russo is played by Barbara Rafferty with their neighbour and owner of rival Chip Shop the San Francisco Fish Bar, Donnie Francisco, portrayed by Brian Pettifer.

Yer Granny tours throughout Scotland from May 19 visiting Greenock, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Dundee.

Tickets are now on sale at all venues.

It has been adapted by Douglas Maxwell from La Nona by Roberta La Cossa and directed by Graham McLaren.

La Nona is the most popular play in Argentina.

It has been reset in the Minerva Fish Bar in 1977 as the Queen visits Scotland to celebrate the Jubilee.

McLaren has said of the play: "When I first read Douglas Maxwell's version of Argentina's greatest comedy, I laughed so violently that my ten year old daughter rose from her bed, convinced I was being attacked.

"If you imagine the satire of Dario Fo with the humour of Rab C Nesbitt, you will get a feel for Yer Granny."

A BBC TV version of La Nona was broadcast in 1991 as part of the Performance series, starring Les Dawson as the granny.
