THE British Naturism organisation is aiming to get into the Guinness World Records after it staged a naked Burns Supper in Dunoon.

The "Burns in the Buff" supper, with almost 100 guests and a kilted piper, is believed by its organisers to have been the largest of its kind. The women wore sashes and the men bow-ties.

It was one of the highlights of the group's first-ever Scottish weekend, and took place at the Glenmorag Hotel.

Chris Applegate, volunteers co-ordinator with British Naturism, said: "The Burns Supper was absolutely fantastic. As a mere Sassenach, I found the haggis absolutely wonderful – it was the tastiest thing of all.

"We think it was the world's first naked Burns supper. We're actually thinking of writing to Guinness World Records to say we believe it's the world's biggest naked Burns Supper. If they want to see us do it next year, they would be more than welcome to attend."

The Scottish event began at 5pm on Friday and continued until yesterday afternoon, with such activities as optional boat trips, karaoke, a disco, bingo and a quiz. The hotel's general manager, Mairi MacLeod, said of her naked guests: "They're lovely people – so friendly and relaxed."

Speaking as the guests donned clothes and caught the ferry back to Gourock before heading home, Mr Applegate said: "It's been an absolutely fantastic weekend. The feedback has been brilliant, with members saying, 'please can we come back again?' The hotel staff have been wonderful, too."

The only drawback in the event's final hours was the constant rain. "The weather's rubbish, but it can't dampen what has been an excellent weekend," he added.
