She has the look, the moves and the natural elegance in-keeping with a burlesque performer - but Lyndsey Roberts from Glasgow is a little bit different compared to your average Dita von Teese wannabe.

Because although Roberts channels showgirl opulence to the max when performing, it's primarily to a class of students in a studio rather than a paying audience - and that's exactly the way she likes it.

An undergraduate in Contemporary Dance from the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance (first class honours, naturally), Roberts moved to London to further her studies on a scholarship from the Veronica Bruce memorial fund administered by the Scottish Ballet, and equipped herself with a post-grad in Advanced Dance Studies before returning to her homeland to teach.

"For me, I prefer passing on what I've learnt to my students by teaching as opposed to performing," she explains.

"Burlesque is a fantastic way to keep fit over the festive period as an alternative to going to the gym. It's a sociable way to stay active and healthy, and the dance form builds on your confidence, too.

As her burlesque alter-ego Ginger Valentine, we filmed behind-the-scenes at Roberts's class at Dance HQ, set in Glasgow's Templeton building, to find out a little more about how burlesque can serve as keep-fit technique as well as a performance art.

Lyndsey Roberts's classes run every Wednesday from December 3, 8.30pm - 9.30pm at Dance HQ.
