Former Rangers star Stuart McCall is in talks to become Rangers manager.

It is thought the deal the club have offered the former Bradford City and Motherwell manager is to the end of the season.

McCall was a key figure in the legendary Ibrox teams which clinched nine Premier League titles in a row in the 1989 to 1997 - equally Celtic's similar run in the 1960s and 1970s.

The 50-year-old won three Scottish Cups and three League Cups in his seven year playing stint for the Light Blues.

Discussions are said to be on-going with the former midfielder, who began his coaching career at Bradford, where he also played and worked under Neil Warnock at Sheffield United before re-joining Bradford as manager.

His most recent spell in the dugout ended in November last year when he resigned at Motherwell.

During his stint at Fir Park, he took the Steelmen to third place in the league and got them into the Champions League for the first time in the club's history.

He is currently a member of Gordon Strachan's backroom team in the Scotland set-up.

There was no official comment from Rangers today, but reports suggested he would take over from Kenny McDowall, who is working his notice, after a series of poor results put in doubt the club's promotion hopes.
