THE Big Tent Festival has come to an end, its organisers have announced.

The largest event of its kind in Fife, described as "Scotland's Greenest Festival", was launched in 2006 by the Falkland Centre for Stewardship at the Falkland Estate.

It featured live music as well as other events such as storytelling, arts and crafts, and cycling. Acts that played the event included The Proclaimers, Rosanne Cash, King Creosote and Aberfeldy.

The event, which took place in July, was previously postponed while a major review was established.

Ninian Stuart, chairman of the Falkland Estate Trust and estate steward at the Falkland Centre for Stewardship, said any future event would have been "a lot bigger and be more expensive, and we don't want to do that".

He added: "We only had a couple of thousand people at the first event, but the last two both had more than 11,000 over the weekend.

"We are a very modest sized organisation and the event had grown very big, very quickly, to the extent that it took up most of our year to organise it. We had built up a lot of momentum and a very loyal audience.

"We know people want us to do another festival."

Mr Stuart said the running costs involved were "huge".

The last event featured a series of "green" features, including compost toilets and solar showers.

Another eco-festival, The Outsider, was launched near Aviemore in 2007, but ended after two years.
