A pedestrian who died after being struck by a lorry in the early hours of the morning has been named by police.

Oskars Zenka, 27, died in the collision on the A96 Inverurie to Aberdeen road at the Tavelty junction, Kintore, Aberdeenshire, at 2.20am today.

Mr Zenka was originally from Latvia but had been living in the Inverurie area.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

Sergeant David Pirie, of Police Scotland, said: "Losing a loved one in such a tragic way is extremely harrowing and our thoughts are with Mr Zenka's family and friends at this difficult time.

"Inquiries are at an early stage and I urge anyone with information, or who may have seen a pedestrian or the lorry travelling northbound on that stretch of road, to come forward as soon as possible."
