The body of an elderly man who died in his flat is thought to have lain undiscovered for around three years.

Police were called to the property in Easter Road, Edinburgh, where it is understood officers had to break down the door to gain entry to the home of Henry Summers.

They went to the flat on Wednesday after concerns were raised about the pensioner's welfare.

A post-mortem examination is taking place but it is believed he died three years ago.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police were called to a property on Easter Road on Wednesday 24th June following reports of concern for the safety of the male occupant.

"The body of a man was found inside - the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
