A person has been hit by a train between the Hyndland and Partick stations in Glasgow.

Scotrail tweeted information to its followers, saying: "Sadly, due to a person being hit by a train #Hyndland & #Partick."

They confirmed that lines were now open, but disruption to services between Milngavie and Motherwell were expected to last until 6.30pm, with some services still cancelled.

They also confirmed customers with valid tickets could use First Bus local services between Balloch. Helensburgh, Dalmuir, Milngavie and Airdrie, Motherwell, Carluke, Hamilton Central where bus services are operated by First Bus.

A spokesman from the Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed there was incident on the tracks between Partick and Hyndland at the access behind Clarence Drive at around 2.48pm. He confirmed the patient was in a critical condition.

One ambulance, a paramedic response unit, a trauma team and a special ops unit also attended the scene.

Local resident Jill Ferguson was shopping in the Crow Road retail park when the incident occured. 

She said: "I heard the helicopter outside and a lot going on.

"We realised they were all going into the retail park to get round the back to the train line.

"I saw about 2 or 3 policemen scouring the track walking along it and a few men in high vis jackets. I don't know what they were looking for.

"There were at least 6 or 7 police cars and a trauma car there. In some respects you can't speculate on what has happened but it seems there has been someone hurt on the line."
