Claudia Winkleman's eight-year-old daughter is recovering in hospital after she was burnt while celebrating Hallowe'en.

Matilda is thought to have been out trick-or-treating in Hallowe'en costume on Friday night when she came into contact with flames from a candle and the accident occurred.

Winkleman and her film producer husband Kris Thykier said in a statement that they were hopeful that their daughter would make a full recovery.

But the 42-year-old will not host Strictly Come Dancing next weekend and whether she returns to the show after that is yet to be confirmed.

The mother-of-three missed last weekend's BBC1 show following the incident.

Now the couple have said in a statement: "Our daughter was involved in an accident on Friday night while celebrating Hallowe'en.

"We would like to thank everyone, particularly the NHS doctors, nurses and staff who have been absolutely incredible."

They added: "We would like to take this opportunity to remind anyone taking part in fireworks parties or Guy Fawkes celebrations to be vigilant about the dangers of candles."

The BBC said Zoe Ball, who hosted last weekend's Hallowe'en special with Tess Daly, would fill in for Winkleman this weekend.
