PUPILS at an Edinburgh school have won part of an international project to inspire the next generation of artists.

Flora Stevenson's Primary School was the only one in Scotland selected for the Art Sparks Learning programme, for which the youngsters chose 18 of their favourite artworks for display in their school.

It beat two other schools to win the overall contest for the UK and received a prize of £750 in art supplies.

Irene Brennan, head teacher, said: "The pupils' engagement in the selection process of the art has stimulated a great enthusiasm in art and design."

She said this had resulted in them planning and delivering additional art workshops, which were led by local artists.
