ONE of Scotland's oldest youth groups has launched a charity appeal to help secure the future of their headquarters.

The Boys Brigade (BB) is hoping to raise £1 million to save its residential hub Carronvale House in Larbert, Stirlingshire.

Carronvale House has been used for training and recreation for more than 70 years and has catered for thousands of BB young people and leaders as well as local schools, community groups and overseas visitors.

The house works as a centre for a huge range of uses including training courses, evening sports events and residential programmes.

The Carronvale Appeal, launched yesterday, will use funds collected by members and the general public for a refurbishment programme designed to ensure the building maintains its place at the heart of the organisation for generations to come.

More than two thirds of groups in BB Scotland take at least one residential trip per year, many of which are hosted at Carronvale House.

The organisation has given itself a year to reach the funding target, and plans to use the money to upgrade bedrooms, install floodlights and build an adventure playground for younger BB members.

Bill Stevenson, Director for The Boys' Brigade in Scotland, said: "This year, over ten thousand of our members will experience this sense of adventure in a variety of contexts.

"Some may have their first night away simply staying in a church hall whilst others will be resident at an activity centre and yet others staying a weekend or week under canvas. These experiences will not only take place in Scotland, but around the world.

"Whatever the experience, for many, such ventures are the highlight of the Company's year and are eagerly anticipated. Such activities are designed to develop independence as well as group work, decision making and confidence and support the development of positive relationships between adults and young people."
