A MOTHER who killed her three children at their home in Edinburgh has committed suicide in an English high-security psychiatric hospital.

Theresa Riggi, 50, was found dead yesterday at Rampton hospital in Nottinghamshire, just months after being transferred there from a psychiatric unit in Scotland.

California-born Riggi stabbed her three children to death in 2010 over fears she would lose them to her husband in a custody battle.

She attempted to cover up the attacks by causing a gas explosion at the property in Slateford Road before jumping from the balcony.

Riggi was initially charged with murder but was jailed for 16 years after admitting culpable homicide on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Psychiatrists diagnosed the American with narcissistic, paranoid and histrionic personality disorders.
