Road crash: driver dead, police appeal for witnesses

A driver has died in hospital after his car crashed on a country road.

The accident happened on the A857 Stornoway to Ness road, near Laxdale Primary school, on the Isle of Lewis, at around 1.50pm yesterday.

The man was driving alone in a blue Vauxhall Agila when it veered off the road.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the man was transferred to Western Isles Hospital where he later died.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash and are appealing for any witnesses who were in the area or saw the car to contact them.
