AN ONLINE row has blown up over abuse hurled at bra entrepreneur Michelle Mone after she confirmed she will leave Scotland.
The Ultimo founder, who threatened to leave the country in the event of a Yes vote in last year's independence referendum made her decision public on Twitter.
She insisted she was not turning her back on Scotland, that Ultimo's headquarters would remain in the country and attacked users of the micro-blogging site who had greeted her announcement with contempt.
Gillian Wilson said: "Who cares? She was an embarrassing spoiled petulant b**h during #indyref tantrums to get her own way..."
Sean Weldon added: "You blonde b***o you have no place in politics if ya don't like Scotland just leave no need to make a fuss over it."
Marie Wood said:"Oh no! Michelle Mone is quitting Scotland. Do we look like we care? Don't let the door hit you where Mother Nature split you!!"
Gary Bhoy said: "Don't let the door hit you're fat a**e on the way out you Tory loving t*t. Bye bye, ta ta."
Marc Philip retorted: "Gutted you ain't taking your failed company with you. Oh well. Good riddance."
Jamie Ross commented: "We are not jealous. I would help you pack for free... 1 less Tory in the country :) Good luck in the rest of your life."
And the pro-independence website Wings Over Scotland tweeted: "Hang on, has Michelle Mone finally pi**ed off? *dusts off bunting, party poppers*"
Ms Mone, herself, who is in South Korea on business, hit back in a Tweet since deleted saying: "Note all the SNP muppets.I haven't turned my back on Scotland purely biz global commitments. I certainly won't miss u angry, hated, jealous lot."
She responded to one abusive message by tweeting: "I'm moving because my career has taken off beyond my wildest dreams.
"Advice, get rid of your jealousy, drags you down."
The tweet was later deleted.
She later stated: "Been a long hard decision, but I'm moving away for many reasons. Ultimo HQ will still remain. My passion &l ove will never die for #Scotland."
Some Tweeters defended her.
Matt said: "Michelle Mone to leave Scotland. Who can blame her? A strong businesswoman, employer & wealth creator has no place in #SNP communist Scotland."
Ms Mone put her luxury Park Circus flat on the market last month so she could buy her ex-husband out of the house they shared in Thorntonhall, South Lanarkshire.
The 43-year-old entrepreneur bought the three-bedroom Park Circus property for £780,700 after she split from her former husband Michael in December 2011.
The pair separated in 2011, and revealed two years later that she was 'heartbroken' at being forced to sell the home after ex-husband Michael - with whom she founded MJM International - refused to let her buy him out of his share of the property.
She often spoke in favour of the Better Together campaign during the referendum and said just days before the vote that she was 'very scared' about the prospect and backing more powers for Holyrood.
In January 2012, she said that she would leave Scotland if the country voted Yes.
She vocally backed the Conservatives during the recent General Election, which saw the Scottish National party win all but three of the country's 59 Westminster seats.
An SNP spokesman said: "This is entirely a personal matter for Michelle Mone, and we wish her well."
Ms Mone was unavailable for comment.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.Â
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.Â
That is invaluable.Â
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
