WHILE the golfing superstars from Europe and America will next week enter battle for the Ryder Cup, a silver-gilt 12-inch replica, valued at up to £8,000, is up for auction.

The trophy was presented to Harry Bannerman, one of three Scots in the British and Irish 1971 team, winning two and losing two matches as they were beaten by the US. Mr Bannerman, 72, is selling it as he cannot split it between his three children, but can divide the proceeds. It goes on sale at Bonhams in Edinburgh on November 5.
