Friends of a Scottish man reported to have died on a shooting range in Thailand have been paying tribute to him.

Reports from Phuket named the man as 21-year-old Liam Colven from Portree on the Isle of Skye, who is said to have died after turning a pistol on himself at the Thalang shooting range.

Writing on his Facebook page, one friend said: "I can't believe u have left us in such a heartbreaking way. A true gentleman, rest in peace u beautiful boy."

Another wrote: "Liam Colven inspired me in many ways."

The Mirror reported that the incident was caught on CCTV footage.

Witnesses said that minutes earlier he was heard having a row over the phone, then shot the gun at a target, hitting the bullseye seven times.

The footage then shows him reload before shooting himself in the head, the report said.

The Phuket Gazette said a taxi driver who picked up the man from a hotel at Bang Tao heard him arguing with someone on the phone while being driven to the range.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Thailand and are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time."
