SCOTS motorcycle racer Keith Amor has been injured after a crash at the Isle of Man TT.

The Falkirk rider sustained possible fractures to his back, shoulders, neck, ankle and arm and was airlifted to the island's hospital.

His 80mph crash comes just a week after French rider Franck Petricola died at the TT.

It is not the first time the 42-year-old has succumbed to injury.

A shoulder injury forced him to retire from the sport in 2012 but he said in February that he was fully fit and was looking foward to competing in all six TT classes.

But Mr Amor crashed at Stella Maris on the second lap of a four-lap Supersport race bringing his TT campaign to an end.

He had been lying in ninth place when he crashed on his RigDeluge Road Racing Honda CBR600RR.

Mr Amor said: "It is what it is and sadly my TT's over but we'll look to get back to full fitness as soon as possible."

Amor, who has recorded five TT podium finishes, made his return to the sport in 2014 and has a fastest lap of 130.177mph.

The Scot's list of career wins includes victories in 2010 at the North West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix.

He said of the crash: "I came through Whitegates, the preceding corner, in a higher gear than normal, which improved my line but my glove had rolled back so when I tipped into Stella Maris and was on the throttle, the glove caught the brake lever and locked the front wheel. I managed to save the front but I was in third gear, travelling at about 80mph and ran out of road, hitting the bales head on.

"It fired me down the road but I jumped up straightaway and walked to the helicopter although I knew I'd given myself a fair old bashing.

"I'd somehow damaged my face as well and feel very second hand. I've got some old injuries in those areas so I'm hoping that's what it is.

"It's a real shame as I was getting more and more into the race and was hopeful of a top five finish. I'd had a bit of arm pump early on but hadn't had any moments and was getting into a good rhythm.
