POP star Sharleen Spiteri is finally to embark on her first movie acting role - five years after the project was mooted.
Filming of I Feel Fine starring the Glasgow singer alongside Dominic West - the English actor who won fame playing an American detective in TV hit The Wire - is due begin in October.
When details of the movie were first announced it was due to begin shooting in Glasgow in September 2010.
Since then producers have been continuing to work on development including securing funding from Creative Scotland and the British Film Institute.
A spokeswoman for Capricorn Film Productions, the Glasgow-based company behind the project said: "We have been working on the script and developing the project. It does take time."
Spiteri was originally picked by her director friend Des Hamilton to play his mother Susan in the drama about his turbulent teenage years growing up in the Govanhill neighbourhood, close to where the singer and her band Texas recorded her first single, I Don't Want A Lover, in 1989.
Leading Scottish film maker Lynne Ramsay, director of We Need to Talk About Kevin, is to be the executive producer on the movie, which is also due to star David Tennant, Billy Boyd and Gary Lewis.
It marks the directorial debut of Hamilton, who has hitherto been a casting agent, casting films including Nymphomaniac, Only God Forgives and This is England.
When the project was first discussed five years ago Spiteri said: "I've known Des since I was 15 so it's lovely to be playing his mum.
"Des's real skill is casting people and taking them out of their comfort zone. Maybe he sees something in me that reminds him of his mother... he thinks I can do it."
According to a report in a Hollywood magazine, the film is "set in the unforgiving streets of 1980s Glasgow".
The film follows the story of teenager Jonny White who becomes embroiled in crime and drug addiction.
It adds: "When a bounty is placed on his head for a crime he didn't commit, White must get to the safe haven of rehab in order to stay alive."
