SIX people have been arrested on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offences.

Three men and three women were detained after raids at four addresses in Portsmouth and Farnborough, in Hampshire, and Greenwich, south east London, Thames Valley Police said.

It comes as Scotland Yard must decide today whether to charge three suspected Islamist extremists following a series of dawn raids last week, while detectives continue to question three men arrested by counter-terror police in London.

The latest arrests were made by the South East Counter Terrorism Unit, who carried out a number of searches yesterday, alongside officers from Hampshire and the Metropolitan Police.

Two men, aged 23 and 26, from Portsmouth, and two women, aged 23 and 29, from Farnborough and Greenwich respectively, are being held on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism, police said.

A 57-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of failing to disclose information about acts of terrorism, engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts and arranging money and property for use in terrorism.

A 48-year-old woman from Portsmouth was also detained on suspicion of failing to disclose information about acts of terrorism.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "Officers would like to reassure residents that the police activity today is in relation to conflicts overseas and is not linked to any immediate threat to local communities or anywhere else in the UK."

The house was previously raided by terror police in April this year. It is understood to be the family home of Ifthekar Jaman, who was killed in Syria last year after travelling to the country to fight government troops.
