A PROTEST by the STUC against Government cuts will go ahead in Glasgow's George Square following concerns that council policies on parades would prevent it mustering in the city's principal civic space.

The STUC said the "labour movement would return triumphantly to George Square" for the rally on October 20, adding that, following protracted negotiations with the council, the square would not be considered a no-go zone for protests in the future.

The council has been planning to curtail the use of George Square under its plans to tighten up its policy on parades.

Yesterday, the STUC said that with the additional support of and "helpful interventions" from councillors, the rally would be going ahead as planned in October.
