Tate gift to mark artist birth

A painting by artist William Scott valued at more than £500,000 has been given to the Tate Gallery by his family to mark the centenary of his birth.

The 1952 painting, called The Harbour, will feature in the first major exhibition of his work in the UK in more than two decades. It will start at Tate St Ives in Cornwall and travel to Wakefield in West Yorkshire and then Belfast. In a statement, his sons Robert and James Scott said: "We are delighted to present Harbour 1952 to the Tate to celebrate the centenary of our father's birth."
