A FEMALE schoolteacher struck off over her fling with a 16-year-old pupil has spoken of her regret over the "10 days of madness".

Bernadette Smith, 35, said she became infatuated with Gary Ralston, a pupil at Bannockburn High in Denny, Stirlingshire, after struggling to come to terms with her husband's affair.

The English teacher said she began thinking about him "too much", adding: "I knew his family circumstances and we were starting to have conversations, which went beyond what should be said between a teacher and a pupil.

"He told me things about his home life and, stupidly, I started to tell him about the problems in my marriage."

Mrs Smith later drove the 16-year-old to a car park at Callendar Park where she said they talked and kissed "for hours", and spent a night in bed in with him at his house.

Mrs Smith was handed a two-year supervision order on Wednesday and has been placed on the sex offenders register.
