Tesco and Dobbies in retail first

PLANS have been submitted for a supermarket and garden centre to be built together in the first development of its kind in Scotland.

Tesco and Dobbies said the site in Peel Park, East Kilbride, would create more than 400 jobs to the area and are asking South Lanarkshire Council to give them permission to go ahead with the plans. They claim it would generate opportunities for former students studying horticulture at South Lanarkshire College.

Adam Williams, Tesco corporate affairs manager, said: "Feedback from the local community has been extremely positive. People like the idea of joining Tesco and Dobbies together, making it a really exciting shopping destination, and welcome the extra choice and competition we will bring to East Kilbride."

Stuart Wright, director of property at Dobbies, added: "Our plans for East Kilbride bring a new-generation retail and garden centre to the area which will not only offer quality, range and value to customers who love their home and garden; but also a unique day-out destination for all the family."
