SO you want to be a star? Dream of adulation? The rock-and-roll lifestyle? Well, the Sunday Herald might be your salvation.
We are offering a talented unsigned band the chance to take to the main stage at the Wickerman Festival, the alternative rock festival that's been dubbed Scotland's answer to Glastonbury, set in beautiful Dumfries and Galloway.
Forget The X Factor or The Voice, this is a fast-track chance to play to a crowd of thousands on the main stage on June 21 – the opening day.
The winners will have to get through our tough selection process and get the vote of our music-loving readers. Even if your band does not win, it can still get exposure as each week we'll feature a song of the week to download on our website.
Each song must be an original work we can offer to the public for the first time ever.
The Wickerman Festival near Dundrennan is now into its 12th year and has been growing in popularity since it was first held in 2000.
This year's festival is headlined by the Scissor Sisters, and the line-up includes Texas, The Levellers, Newton Faulkner and The View.
To rub shoulders with the stars and make your debut as the next big thing, you and your band need to meet the following criteria:
l There is no age limit. All entries – one per band only – must be from a Scottish-based band or group.
l We want one song on a CD which must be submitted by Sunday, June 17, 2012. Send it to to Sunday Herald Marketing, 200 Renfield Street, Glasgow, G2 3QB.
l We reserve the right to refuse any entries which contain material that would be deemed unacceptable – so keep it clean.
l The editor's decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
l You must agree to let the Sunday Herald publish your track online for download when you take part in the competition.
We will feature our Pick of the Week songs over five weeks (June 3-July 1), with each song available for free download by Sunday Herald readers. Each song will go into the final selection, with the final winner picked by the public.
The winner will be the track with the highest number of text votes, and will be given the prize of performing the opening slot on the main stage at the Wickerman Festival 2012. Entrants must be available for the opening on July 21, 2012.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
