Tory peer's warning over Bill

A Tory former Cabinet minister has warned of "potentially destructive tension" in plans to modernise the law on succession to the throne.

Former Scottish secretary Lord Lang of Monkton told peers the line of succession should be secure, transparent and "wholly predictable".

But he said changes in the Succession to the Crown Bill did not meet that test and "may well place stability of the monarchy at risk at some time in the future".
