A psychology student was found dead at student halls in Dundee.

Samantha-Jo Thorpe, 21, known as Sammy or Sammy-Jo, died suddently at Abertay University's Opal student halls, near the city centre, on Thursday morning.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

A university spokesman said her friends and staff were "shocked and deeply saddened" at the death of the third-year undergraduate and had been offered counselling.

Friends yesterday spoke of their shock as dozens of tributes were posted on the student's Facebook page.

One wrote: "Can't believe you're gone, you were a such a lovely lassie and always smiling." Another added: "So many looked up to you. A young woman of tremendous courage and determination, an inspiration to many and a wonderful friend."

Police Scotland said: "Inquiries are ongoing, but there are not believed to be suspicious circumstances. A report has been submitted to the procurator-fiscal."
