The "devastated" father of a British woman who had part of her leg severed by a New York taxi is flying out to the US to keep a bedside vigil.

Sian Green, from Leicester, has undergone surgery and police are investigating.

Ms Green's father Jason said: "She is in recovery now, and they have had to amputate what's left of her foot.

"We just want to be at our daughter's side right now."

Ms Green suffered the serious leg injury in the collision near the Rockefeller Centre on Sixth Avenue, midtown Manhattan.

Two other people - a driver and a cyclist involved in a collision that caused the taxi to veer on to the pavement - were treated for injuries.
