AFTER doubling as Philadelphia complete with hundreds of zombies, Glasgow will now host a major heist and car chases for Hollywood tough guy Vin Diesel.

The city has secured another major Hollywood film which will be shot across a fortnight later this month and through to early September around the city's Clydeside financial district.

Fast 6, part of the Fast And Furious action franchise, will feature Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Paul Walker, with Glasgow starring as an unnamed European city.

Although none of the stars will be in Glasgow, with the shooting being carried out by the film's second unit, the local authority said the movie "will bring a significant economic impact to the city".

Around 250 local and out-of-town crew members will be involved in the shoot.

It comes around a year after the city hosted filming for World War Z starring Brad Pitt. The epic tale of the undead injected more than £3 million into the local economy, with shooting on location in the city centre going on for 17 days, with a cast and crew of around 1200 people.

Other productions which had a "notable economic impact" on Glasgow last year are the films Cloud Atlas, with Halle Berry, Under The Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson, and television production Young James.

Hollywood films and other broadcasting projects generated £20m for Glasgow's economy last year, according to Glasgow Film Office (GFO), and more than £200m in the last 15 years.

Glasgow's distinctive Victorian architecture and "grid" street design, similar to many American cities, has proved attractive to movie-makers.

A GFO spokesman said: "The city has earned a good reputation among freelance location managers for the levels of co-operation and assistance they receive from the council departments – and other public bodies – responsible for key aspects of location shooting."
