Orkney's lifeline ferry service should be restored next week after almost a month of disruption if the vessel's sea trials in the Firth of Forth are successful tomorrow.

MV Hamnavoe is now scheduled to return to the Scrabster run from Caithness to Stromness in Orkney on Tuesday, three days earlier than expected.

It comes just before the Orkney Folk Festival, one of the biggest events in the Orkney tourist calendar, begins on Thursday.

The vessel is currently at the Fife port of Rosyth where she was having a replacement crankshaft fitted in her starboard engine after it broke down on April 25.

Transport Minister Keith Brown said he was pleased to hear of the ferry's likely return.
