THE National Wallace Monument is to undergo a refurbishment ahead of the series of international events taking place in Scotland next year.

The 220ft sandstone tower overlooking the site of William Wallace's victory over King Edward I's English army is to be completely remodelled inside prior to the start of the main 2014 visitor season.

Managers Stirling District Tourism said the refurbishment of the landmark on the Abbey Craig above Cambuskenneth Abbey was partly being carried out in response to events such as the Commonwealth Games.
