MOTORISTS have been warned to expect delays when a major road is partly closed while work is carried out to tackle flooding.

Part of Glasgow's Queen Margaret Drive will be shut to vehicles from January 12 while engineers link two waste water mains.

The work, which will cost about £150,000 and is expected to take about six weeks to complete, is being carried out to reduce the risk of flooding at nine properties in the area.

It will involve the closure of a section of Queen Margaret Drive from its junction with Oban Drive to its junction with Fergus Drive.

Local diversions will be in place for the duration of the work.

Scottish Water said that steps would be taken to minimise any inconvenience to road-users and local customers and businesses.

Mark Maclaren, Scottish Water's regional communities team manager, said: "This important project will enable us to reduce the risk of flooding at these properties in the area and know that these residents will welcome our improvement work.

"We apologise in advance for any disruption and thank those affected for their patience and co-operation. We would stress that any short-term inconvenience will be far out-weighed by the long-term benefits this investment will deliver."
