Police are treating an attack on a man in Glasgow as attempted murder.

The wounded 31-year-old was seen walking in the city's West End on Thursday evening.

Police were called and officers traced the man to the Western Infirmary where he was treated for injuries to his face and neck before discharging himself.

Detective Inspector Tom McKean said: "Extensive enquiries have been carried out by officers to establish the circumstances surrounding this attempted murder, and also to establish where the attack took place.

"Officers are continuing to study CCTV footage in an effort to gather as much information on this incident as possible, and are carrying out enquiries in the local area.

"Enquiries have revealed that four people - three men and one woman - came to the man's assistance in Highburgh Road at Byres Road.

"Unfortunately they had left before police arrived, and I would urge them to contact officers as a matter of urgency as they may have information that is vital to this investigation.

"I would also ask anyone who was in the Highburgh Road and Byres Road areas on Thursday evening who witnessed anything suspicious, or who has any information that may assist police enquiries to contact Police Scotland on 101."
