FORMER Rangers owner Craig Whyte admitted he was not surprised by Charles Green's departure and accused him of lying to everyone to take the reins at Ibrox.

Mr Whyte's damning "you are Sevco" recordings, revealing links between him and Mr Green, started the chain of events that led the chief executive's decision to quit.

The venture capitalist said he would be pursuing legal cases against Mr Green and his group, claiming he can prove they were acting as a "front" for him during Sevco 5088's £5.5 million deal for the club's assets last summer.

He is demanding £1m a year for life or 25% of the Ibrox chief executive's shares.

He said of Green's departure: "It is not very bizarre, it's not very surprising.

"The point is that Green lied to everyone the day he arrived in Glasgow and everyone can see that now.

"There's no disputing the legal cases. They are so cut and dried, I will be surprised if it ever gets to court."

Mr Green swept into the Ibrox hot seat distancing himself from any connection with Mr Whyte as supporters demanded transparency over the Sevco 5088 consortium that would buy Rangers assets for £5.5m.

But Mr Green finally admitted his connections to the former owner after the latter produced secret recordings. They revealed Mr Green told Mr Whyte while discussing a takeover: "You are Sevco, that's what we are saying."

Mr Green accepted having dealings with Mr Whyte and that his associate Imran Ahmad negotiated with him over investing £6m, but claimed Mr Ahmad was "saying what he had to to keep Mr Whyte onside because we believed Rangers could be rescued from a CVA [company voluntary agreement] and so it was vital to get his shares".

Mr Green denies any impropriety.
