Woman dies in mountainside rockfall

A woman has died after she was caught in a rockfall in the mountains.

Emergency services were called to the scene near the Pigme Ridge on Coire an t-Sneachda in the Cairngorms at about 2.30pm today.

Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team and the Royal Navy Sea King Helicopter Rescue 177 were involved in the rescue operation, which was co-ordinated by police.

The woman could not be resuscitated.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
