A WORKMAN has died after being hit by a reversing lorry on a motorway.

The 33-year-old was killed in the accident on the M8 near Glasgow Airport at around 11.40pm on Monday.

The 33-year-old, who worked for road maintenance company TranServ, was knocked down by a Scania tipper lorry and died at the scene.

He has not yet been named.

The accident happened on at junction 28 of the M8 and left the motorway closed for several hours overnight.

The section of road reopened at 5.25am yesterday morning although diversions remained in place during rush hour.

Police said the Health and Safety Executive had been informed and a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal. A spokeswoman for Transerv said the company was unable to comment while the accident was being investigated by the police.
