A 'wall of fame' at Glasgow's SSE Hydro featuring autographs and messages from some of the world's biggest acts has been destroyed.

The wall in a backstage VIP area was started by Rod Stewart when he performed the opening gig at the arena in 2013.

However, officials at the Hydro say they were forced to paint over the wall, which was filled with two years of signatures and messages from acts performing there, after it was vandalised with spray paint.

A band, which the venue have chosen not to name, decided to use spray paint instead of a marker pen.

A spokeswoman for the Hydro said: "After the opening concert for the SSE Hydro in September 2013, Rod Stewart signed a blank wall backstage and it fast became a wall of autographs.

"We would have retained it for posterity but unfortunately, on band which shall remain nameless, went a bit stir crazy and decided to use spray paint instead of a marker pen - it made such a mess that we had to paint over it,"

Over the past two years, the Hydro has hosted a number of big name acts including Take That, Beyonce and The Eagles.
