THE chief conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Robin Ticciati, has had to cancel concerts due to a herniated disc.

Ticciati has had to withdraw from the final two concerts of the orchestra's (SCO) Brahms series in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Emmanuel Krivine will replace Ticciati to complete the SCO Brahms series

The concerts are still taking place on March 10-12 and Brahms Requiem on March 17-18 in Edinburgh's Usher Halls and Glasgow's City Halls.

Ticciati, who is in Europe, is unable to travel and has had to cancel all engagements until the end of March.

A statement said: "The SCO wishes him a speedy recovery."

Krivine is the SCO's Principal Guest Conductor.

Repertoire in both concerts will remain unchanged, except the Widmann Ikarische Klage which will be replaced with Mendelssohn’s ‘Hebrides’ Overture.

In the same concert, Krivine conducts the orchestra in a performance of Brahms’ Symphony No 4.

Russian-born violinist Alina Ibragimova, who performed the full Bach unaccompanied Violin Suites to critical acclaim at the 2015 BBC Proms, will also perform Schumann’s Violin Concerto.

Closing the Brahms Series is a performance of Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem.

Soprano Kate Royal and Baritone Matthias Goerne complete the line-up.

They are joined by the SCO Chorus, who this year celebrate their 25th Anniversary and are directed by British Choral Director Gregory Batsleer.

Krivine has conducted some of the world’s finest orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Royal Concertgebouw, London Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Boston Symphony Orchestra, and is founder of Parisian period-instrument ensemble, La Chambre Philharmonique.

Krivine took up the post of SCO Principal Conductor at the start of the 2015/16 Season.
