BARONESS Mone of Mayfair is planning to build an extension to her “dream” former marital home.

The Tory peer recently took over sole ownership of the five-bedroom property, Telperion, in the village of Thorntonhall after it had been on the market without finding a buyer for £1.6m.

She has submitted plans to South Lanarkshire Council for permission to build a granny flat to the rear of the property for her disabled father to use.

The businesswoman hopes to convert a bar and cinema at the home into a self-contained flat for use by one of her daughters. She also wants a new two storey bay window fitted to the house.

The plans include three dimensional drawings of how the house will look if the building work is approved.

Speaking last year, Baroness Mone told of her plans for the property, which she has called her “dream home”, following the break-down of her 19-year marriage to Michael Mone.

She said: “I’m selling my home here in Glasgow but I also own the big house with my ex-husband. For two years I’ve been trying to buy him out of it and he only agreed just the other day – which is fantastic.

“I designed it, I built it, I love it. But I’m going to change it all so that it doesn’t have any of the bad memories from when I lived there.

“I’m over the moon. I’ll always have a base here in Glasgow but I’ve moved in to my London home as well. So, that means I’ll have just the one home here rather than one and a half.”
