The Hollywood actress Isla Fisher, also known for acting in Australian soap Home and Away, is a new addition to the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

The Australian actress Fisher, born to Scottish parents, is appearing as part of the Children's Programme, presenting her books for children, and will talk about her latest book, Marge and the Great Train Rescue.

Ms Fisher, who appeared in films including Wedding Crashers and Confessions of a Shopaholic and is also known for being married to actor and writer Sach Baron Cohen, has written three books for children.

Ms Fisher's late addition is for a show in the main theatre of the festival on August 19.

Another late addition of the festival is the appearance of the winner of the Man Booker International Prize, David Grossman.

The director of the book festival, Nick Barley, who chaired the judges for the prize, said he was thrilled that Grossman is to come to the festival, on August 16.

The event is called The Best International Novel of 2017 and will see Grossman, from Israel, read from his prize winning book A Horse Walks Into a Bar.

Barley added: "He will win the Nobel Prize at some point.

"This man is a proper leading light of international literature and his book is extraordinary, and I am chairing the event, and I am proud to."

A statement from the festival says: "We are completely thrilled that Grossman will join us at the Book Festival to talk about his winning novel.

"Born and still based in Jerusalem, he has long been recognised as one of the world’s great novelists, with awards including the French Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, Germany’s Buxtehuder Bulle, Rome’s Premio per la pace e l’azione umanitaria, the Frankfurt peace prize, and Israel’s Emet prize.

Set in a small Israeli town, A Horse Walks Into a Bar is focused entirely on comedian Dovaleh Greenstein.

The judges of the Prize praised the novel as "a mesmerising meditation on the opposite forces shaping our lives: humour and sorrow, loss and hope, cruelty and compassion, and how even in the darkest hours we find the courage to carry on."
