KYOTO: Jiroemon Kimura celebrates his 116th birthday at his home in Kyotango city, Kyoto prefecture, western Japan.

Mr Kimura, the world's oldest living person, turned 116 yesterday.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sent Mr Kimura a video message to congratulate him, while Kyotango Mayor Yasushi Nakayama visited his home.

Mr Kimura was born on April 19, 1897, and became the oldest living person in the world in December. He has five living children, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
