Cuba hit by 114mph hurricane

santiago de cuba: Hurricane Sandy has hit Cuba after lashing shanty towns across Jamaica and the Dominican republic.

The US National Hurricane Centre in Miami said it had maximum sustained winds of 114mph.

Sandy's death toll so far is at least two. An elderly man was killed in Jamaica when he was crushed by a boulder and a woman in Haiti was swept away by a rushing river.
