WELLINGTON: A magnitude 6.9 earthquake has hit New Zealand, the US Geological Survey reported, but there were no reports of major damage or injuries.
The largest of a recent series of tremors to shake the area, the quake yesterday knocked items off shelves, broke some windows and stopped trains in the capital, Wellington. There was one report of a building damaged.
