A teenager has been killed by a shark off Australia's east coast, in the country's second fatal attack this month.

Police said the victim was about 18 years old. He was body-boarding about 330ft offshore near the northern New South Wales city of Coffs Harbour when he was bitten on the legs. The teenager's friends got him back to the beach, where paramedics tried to save him, but he was later pronounced dead. Last weekend a 35-year-old surfer was fatally mauled by a shark off a beach near the Western Australian community of Gracetown.
