A BLOG which appears to have been written by the man accused of the Charleston church shootings describes black people as "dogs" and claims he carried out the atrocity because hate groups such as the Ku Klux Klan are too passive.
The record, which appears on website lastrhodesian.com, appears beside photographs of 21-year-old Dylann Roof posing with weapons and the Confederate flag.
It is not clear exactly who wrote the words or took the pictures, but the FBI are understood to be looking into the blog as part of their case against Roof, who is accused of shooting dead nine people during an attack on a much loved black church in South Carolina.
Under the heading 'An Explanation', the blog states: "I have no choice. I am not in the position to, alone, go into the ghetto and fight.
"I chose Charleston because it is most historic city in my state, and at one time had the highest ratio of blacks to Whites in the country.
"We have no skinheads, no real KKK, no one doing anything but talking on the internet.
"Well someone has to have the bravery to take it to the real world, and I guess that has to be me."
It also appears to explain Roof's racist tendencies - claiming he was not raised in a racist household but became "truly awakened" by the case of black US teen Trayvon Martin who was shot by a white neighbourhood watch volunteer.
The postings claim that it was "obvious" that the volunteer was in the right.
Under a subsection labelled 'Blacks', the blog adds that "n******s are stupid and violent", before going on to compare black people to dogs, saying: "Say you were to witness a dog being beat by a man. You are almost surely going to feel very sorry for that dog.
"But then say you were to witness a dog biting a man. You will most likely not feel the same pity you felt for the dog for the man. Why? Because dogs are lower than men. This same analogy applies to black and White relations."
It also hits out at Jews, Hispanics and Asians and glorifies slavery, while also criticising the American flag, stating: "I hate the sight of the American flag. Modern American patriotism is an absolute joke."
The record also described white women who marry black men as "victims".
The website was first registered in February this year under the name Dylann Roof. It was last updated on Wednesday, the day of the shootings, saying: "At the time of writing I am in a great hurry."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
