A US hospital has isolated a patient showing signs of having Ebola.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas said the patient's symptoms and travel history suggest they may have Ebola. The virus has killed more than 3,000 people across West Africa.

The hospital is awaiting preliminary test results from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

Presbyterian Hospital said it is taking measures to keep its doctors, staff and patients safe.

The National Institutes of Health recently admitted an American doctor exposed to the virus while volunteering in Sierra Leone. Four other patients have been treated at hospitals in Georgia and Nebraska.

Presbyterian Hospital's statement said officials there were following recommendations to keep doctors, staff and patients safe. Ebola symptoms include fever, muscle pain, vomiting and bleeding.
