YOUR obituary of Allan Stewart (The Herald, December 8) was in my opinion shallow, placing undue emphasis on the sadder and darker intervals in his life. I do not share Mr Stewart's political philosophy or allegiances but it cannot be denied that he did a great deal of good work both for organisations and individuals within his own constituency and nationally.

The old adage that if you cannot say something good about a person, living or dead, it is better to say nothing, has seldom been better illustrated.
