WHY are you picking on the Mormons? (New Tory MP in equality row over Mormons' stance on gay marriage, News, June 25) They seem to me to be a decent bunch of people.

Their belief that marriage is a union of a man and a woman is not only perfectly reasonable, it fits the facts. Marriage has existed world-wide since before history began and it is obvious what its purpose is. It provides each child with a father who is prepared to accept responsibility for the child's welfare.

It is only in the 21st century that the nonsense of "same-sex marriage" was invented and there is no need for it. A homosexual relationship should stand on its own feet without the crutch of a false name.

An "equal marriage" is a marriage in which the husband and wife are equally important. A homosexual relationship is not a marriage at all, despite the passing of a law that says it is.

If you want "tolerance, respect and inclusion" then you have to tolerate, respect and include the Mormons too.
