PRESIDENT Donald Trump has unilaterally declared Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel, to the delight of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, key Trump supporters including the right-wing pro-Israel lobby, American evangelicals and Islamophobes and the dismay of many in the international community (“Trump’s Israel capital move opens up ‘the gates of hell’” and comment, The Herald, December 7).
Mr Trump made no mention of East Jerusalem and a Palestinian state. Can it possibly be the case that he is deliberately provoking the Arab world into a violent backlash simply to support his prejudiced views and actions against Muslims?
