ONCE again ("Passengers hit by chaos as trains are cancelled", The Herald, May 7), ScotRail is assailed and assaulted by these odious percentage figures that also, as previously commented on by myself, bedevil the NHS, police and education authorities that emanate from quasi-governmental bodies that are simply that, figures.

The gathering of such and their interpretation can be regarded as a meaningless miasma. I can agree that watch and note must be kept on how services are performed and provided but as far as the railway travelling public is concerned particularly in regard to litter, soiled seats and toilets, this is largely due to passenger behaviour and is merely a reflection of social behaviour elsewhere.

As regards the news that Glasgow Queen Street is Britain's most unpopular station; that is an accolade we could have done without but with the station remaining open whilst the demolition and rebuilding work goes on is unavoidable. Many stations elsewhere have endured this, for example Edinburgh Waverley a few years ago, with the subsequent overall improvement evident in every way conceivable.
