THE headline “Gender Pay Gap Far From Closed” that accompanied the article about equal pay on page nine of your Business HQ Supplement (The Herald, June 20) unfortunately perpetuates the myth that there is a connection between these topics.

The gender pay gap is the average difference between the remuneration for men and for women who are working in an organisation.

Thus, if women do more of the less well-paid jobs in an organisation, there will be a gender pay gap. This has no connection with equal pay.
